Cantastic!

As most of you know, for years Old Pine has received large donations of canned goods from three Main Line schools: Episcopal Academy, Haverford, and Agnes Irwin. The bounty has been shared by Saturday for Seniors, St. Peter’s, and Mother Bethel and for the past several years, the donation has been so large that we have been able to help out approximately ten other agencies with their own food programs. However, this year Episcopal moved from its City Line campus to new digs in Newtown Square and with the move began to rethink its participation in the drive. For some weeks we bit our nails while Episcopal made its decision. Well, the decision has been made and there WILL be a Can Drive with Agnes Irwin and Haverford taking the lead but with Episcopal participating. Because all three schools want to serve agencies in their own backyards, our share will be somewhat smaller than usual but there should be plenty for both SFS and St Peter’s. Delivery will be quite late in the day on Tuesday, November 25. Dick and I spoke to a Haverford Assembly on November 3 and the excitement seems to be running high, so we are confident we’ll get more than enough to meet our needs. Now we need some help. First, the pantry at the Community Center must be rearranged and that needs to be done ASAP. If you can help with this, please let Dick know. And as usual, we’ll need help in restocking the pantry on the 25th. Again, please let Dick know if you can help. Episcopal Academy was one of the first supporters of SFS and has donated canned goods for nearly thirty years. The other two schools joined in later and added competition that drove the drive to dizzying proportions. I don’t need to tell you what this gift has meant to us and to St. Peter’s as well as to the many other agencies that have benefited. We send a hearty “Thank You” to all three.
